The Ant-Man costume was first worn by Hank Pym. In his first appearance in the comics, Hank Pym is a scientist who discovered subatomic particles, which everyone knows as Pym particles.
Thanks to a serum, he manages to become the size of an ant. In the comics, his first experiment goes wrong as he gets trapped in an ant farm. After escaping and regaining his normal size, the scientist decides to get rid of the two serums as he feels they are too dangerous. He later becomes Ant-Man and reveals his secret to Janet Van Dyne, who becomes The Wasp.
In the comics, we learn that Pym will give up the Ant-Man suit because of the effects of the shrinking gas on his brain.
Scott Lang – From thief to superhero
In the comics :
Scott Edward Harris Lang is the second Ant-Man, this character was created by David Michelinie and John Byrne. His first appearance was in March 1979 in the comic book Avengers (vol.1). Scott Lang is an electronics expert thief. After being released from prison, he finds work at Stark Industries where he helps improve the security system at Avengers HQ. Later, his daughter Cassie is discovered to be a heart patient. He is forced to commit one last theft: stealing the Ant-Man suit from Hank Pym. After wanting to turn himself in, Hank Pym decides to make him the new Ant-Man.
In the films :
He is a reformed thief who was convinced (or tricked) by Hank Pym to be the new Ant-Man. After committing a robbery at Hank Pym‘s house, Hank Pym convinces him to keep the suit for good use.
Scott trains with Hank Pym and his daughter Hope Van Dyne to master this new suit, but also learns to communicate with ants. The goal of all this is to steal the Yellowjacket armour from Darren Cross, which was created for an army of soldiers. This armour is similar to that of Ant-Man. The fight with Falcon on the roof of the Avengers HQ brings him to the attention of the superheroes. This led to several appearances of Ant-Man in the films.
Eric O’Grady – The Third Ant-Man
In the comics, there was a third Ant-Man, Eric O’Grady. He was created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Phil Hester. This new character first appeared in the comic book The Irredeemable Ant-Man #1 in December 2006.
Eric O’Grady is the opposite of these two predecessors, unlike them, he is self-centred and immoral. He is an agent of the Shield.
The comic book series was not very successful and lasted 12 issues before stopping. Nevertheless, he will be seen in other comics.
