Ant-Man and the Wasp : Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the third instalment of the adventures of Ant-Man and the 31st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It is directed by Peyton Reed, who previously directed the first two installments, and has a running time of 2.5 hours. The film is the first project of phase V of the MCU.

Synopsis

Superhero duo Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne return for new adventures in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Along with Hopeโ€™s parents โ€“ Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, and Scottโ€™s daughter Cassie Lang, the family will explore the Subatomic Dimension and encounter strange new creatures on a journey that will take them far beyond what anyone thought possible.

My opinion :

To begin with, you should know that I really like the Marvel universe movies. So if you didnโ€™t like the previous films and especially the Ant-Man films. I rather enjoyed the film overall. After a first film that quickly evoked the quantum world and a second film that let us see a sample of it, this third film plunges us completely into it. The overall aesthetics of the film are quite beautiful. What I deplore most in the film is that the protagonists are almost never together in the film. Indeed, as soon as they arrive in the quantum world, two groups are formed and will only be reunited at the end of the film.

The villain Kang is very well introduced and is very convincing. He is a real threat to the heroes. Cassie Lang is very nice and easily finds her place in the film. Her relationship with her father is one of the coolest arcs in the film. The rest of the new characters are completely forgettable.

One film, two atmospheres

As I said above, this is an Ant-Man movie. Marvel movies have always had a lot of humour present and especially in the Ant-Man movies. As a result, there is a lot of humour, often not very subtle and breaking up the seriousness that the script is trying to bring. The film knows that it has the heavy task of introducing Kang to the general public. As the next Avengers is called Kang Dynasty, the film has to show the threat of the character. So we go from a very serious and heavy moment to a light moment throughout the film.

The big positive point of the film is the particular atmosphere of the subatomic dimension. The film plunges us into an adventure that is close to a space adventure. The quantum world finds its own rules, technologies and inhabitants. It is a breath of fresh air and allows us to finally discover a new universe and explore it a little more.

Conclusion

I totally recommend the film. Itโ€™s a good time. Kang is introduced in a more than decent way. The saga line of the multiverse (phase IV, V and VI) of the MCU is finally starting to take shape.

PS: There are two post-generic scenes.
