Humans, itโs time to get thawed out and go back to Pandora.
Avatar The Way of Water is a 20th century studios film directed by James Cameron and is a sequel to the 2009 film. It runs for 3 hours and 10 minutes and was released on 14 December.
Set over a decade after the events of the first film. AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER tells the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children), the trials they face, the paths they must take to protect each other, the battles they must fight to stay alive and the tragedies they endure.
After seeing the film, one can say that sometimes taking your time is good. Indeed, James Cameron brings us back to Pandora almost 12 years after the first film. Making a sequel to this cinematic phenomenon was risky but the challenge is met with flying colors.
As for the story, those who liked the first film will like this one. The story has a very similar narrative structure, allowing us to dive back into this world with a familiar feeling. The new characters are very interesting and make the film dynamic. The discovery of the sea people and their traditions through Jack Sullyโs children allows the viewer to marvel through their eyes.
As with the first film, the special effects are incredible. Remember that the first film had popularized 3D. All the studios have also tried it, but with much less success. This second part, for my part, has reconciled me with this technology. It is a real treat for the eyes to be able to see the landscapes of Pandora and its marine surroundings.
Another technology is used for this film, HFR (high frame rate). To put it simply, cinema uses a frame rate of 24 frames per second. This format was used when films were still on film to save on film. So that there are no jerky moments during films, so that the image is fluid. This technology increases the number of frames per second.
As this technology is not always appreciated (viewers often find the image too fluid, which is a strange feeling when watching), James Cameron preferred to mix scenes of exposition and action in HFR with scenes of dialogue in 24 frames. For my part, I found the switch from one speed to the other somewhat disturbing. Indeed, when the film switches from one speed to the other, I found that the image jerked a little in one direction and the too good fluidity was strange in the other.

Avatar The Way of Water is a worthy successor to its predecessor and reassures us that the saga will continue. A great moment of cinema that plunges us back into this incredible world to which we want to return again and again.
