Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness – Synopsis :
Several months after the events of Spider-man: No Way Home, Stephen Strange finds himself confronted with several different realities (simply called the multiverse).
Doctor Strange will call upon Wanda Maximoff, now known as Scarlet Witch, and we will quickly learn the extent of her powers. A new character appears (and not the least) Strange will meet a teenager America Chavez who can create portals to other realities.
Realisation : 4/5
The director of this new opus is none other than Sam Raimi who directed the Spider-man trilogy (2002, 2004, 2007).
Once again, Marvel Studios offers us different settings and landscapes, each one as well created as the other. The film plunges us into a kaleidoscopic universe with jumps from universe to universe where many worlds are represented, from the more “normal” to the more “fantasy”.
We are dealing with a darker universe and therefore more violence, the director pushes the limits of the MCU to the maximum.
We had a glimpse of the multiverse in the last Spider-man, but here the barriers are pushed to the maximum and the viewer is thrown in.
The confrontation scenes are still spectacular with very well done special effects.
To avoid saying too much, I’ll let you go and see the film.
Actors : 4/5
The famous Doctor Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch has been a regular at Marvel Studios since the first film released in 2016.
What we love is the Doctor Strange and Wong ( Benedict Wong) duo who always make us laugh so much.
We get to see some new acting and multiple personalities from Stephen Strange and we are not disappointed.
Wanda Maximoff (Scarlett Witch) played by Elisabeth Olsen gives her character a new lease of life and we see the Red Witch in a new light. Where we can discover the aftermath of WandaVision and the consequences of the WestWiew hostage situation.
A new character arrives in this new film America Chavez played by Xochitl Gomez. Playing a young teenager from another universe, the new MCU heroine is part of Phase IV. Given her power, this may not be her only appearance.
To be continued…
And many more, but I’ll leave it to you to find out in the cinema.
Intrigue : 4/5
The plot keeps us in suspense, because personally I wasn’t expecting this. We are delighted to find a lot of characters but also a bit lost because we are faced with the complexity of the multiverse.
The film is full of twists and turns and one thing is for sure you won’t have time to get bored in your seat.
It takes us where Marvel wants us to go and that’s where we are most surprised and even doubtful.
What is nice is to find the humour that only the MCU has the secret of.
The end of the film is just as good as the beginning and as they say, it comes full circle.
With Marvel there is always an opening for later and the only thing I can tell you is that Doctor Strange will be back.
We like :
- The cast
- The plot
- The direction
- The openness to future film possibilities
- The special effects and spectacular sets
We like it less:
- The complexity of the multiverse
- You need to have seen the Marvel series (Disney+)
- Too much detail
