In this month of May, the construction of the merlon of the Walt Disney Studios is finished. The construction of this mound of earth was a prerequisite for the extension of the second Disneyland Paris park announced in 2018. The work intended to serve as a visual and sound barrier is based on the same principle as during the construction of Disneyland Park in the early 90s. Isolate the tourist activity from the city and vice versa. On both sides, it limits visual intrusions and nuisances. The immersion of visitors and the comfort of local residents are thus improved.
This impressive mass of earth culminates here at 9 meters high. It is almost 500 meters long and 27 meters wide. It was necessary to minimize the impact of future park constructions such as the Snow Queen mountain (40 meters) or the noise generated by the shows expected on the lake. On the city side, a second “curtain” of protection will eventually come in the form of a set of office buildings, designed not to be visible from inside the park!
If the construction of the merlon of the Walt Disney Studios is now completed, it will then have to go through a vegetation stage. It will be composed of trees and shrubs up to 20 meters. The plant screen formed will further isolate the future extension of Walt Disney Studios Park. A small environmental bonus is that the soil used to build the embankment is local. It comes directly from the construction site of a new rainwater retention basin located only a few meters away.
This landscape formality being almost completed, the cranes and other construction equipment should soon invade the site. To be continued…
