Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi

Lately, movie and series fans were happy. On 27 May 2022, Disney+ welcomed the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise. The new Obi-Wan Kenobi mini-series appeared to the delight of fans.

Let’s debrief together this 6 episode mini-series. It will have kept us on the edge of our seats for a few weeks with one episode a week.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – Synopsis

Following the fall of the Jedi Order, the Sith Emperor Palpatine has installed his iron rule over the galaxy. Ten years after the execution of Order 66, Obi-Wan Kenobi has decided to isolate himself on the planet Tatooine. His sole purpose is to watch over young Luke Skywalker.

Faced with the threat of the Empire and especially that of his former padawan turned Darth Vader, Obi-Wan must leave his hideout to protect young Luke Skywalker.

The Inquisitors are looking for Jedi who may have escaped Order 66. Kenobi leaves Tatooine when he learns that Luke‘s twin sister, Leia Organa, has been kidnapped.

In these 6 episodes, we follow the adventures of the famous Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi who will become the target of Darth Vader and also of Reva Sevander.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – Realization: 4/5

It is a woman director, not a man, who is at the helm of this series. Deborah Chow is the one who inherited the direction of this series. She had directed two episodes of The Mandalorian in the past.

The recipe for Lucasfilm: lightsabers, special effects, epic combat. I must say that all the conditions are met to please the greatest number of people.

Actors: 5/5

As for the casting, I have nothing to say except: a big YES!

I have to say that what more than enticed me to watch the series was the iconic duo Ewan McGregor & Hayden Christensen. Seeing these two actors together again in this series is just great.

Also featured is the very famous Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine. The famous Darth Sidious has been played by the same actor since the release of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.

Moses Ingram makes an appearance as two-faced Reva Sevander.

Vivien Lyra Blair plays the young and intrepid Leia Organa (with a strong character), a character we get attached to from the first episode.

Plot: 4/5

The first thing that comes to mind is that finally we have a little something that lets us imagine what could have happened between the end of Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of A New Hope.

A common thread links the six episodes: indeed, it is a single plot that we follow throughout. Obi-Wan Kenobi must find Princess Leia Organa.

The last episode is the highlight of the show with the confrontation between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader and once again the master is superior to the student.

The viewers discover through the episodes the past of Reva Sevander, a character we hate at the beginning but end up liking (a little bit) at the end.

Music: 5/5

Star Wars would not be Star Wars without its mythical music & melodies.

It is none other than the famous John Williams who composed some of the music for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. This great man is well known for having created the music for the famous Star Wars theme. The theme that we find at the beginning of the films and where we don’t know if we should read or hum this tune.

I have to say that my favourite music is the one from the final confrontation: this melody fits so well with the scene!

We like:

  • The duo Ewan McGregor & Hayden Christensen.
  • Final confrontation.
  • Qui-Gon Jinn appearance.

We like less:

  • The series focuses on a single storyline over a short period of time.

To conclude, I give this mini-series a grade of 18/20 as they say perfection does not exist. But if I can give you an advice, watch it! The main thing I reproach is that we have only one plot. Personally, I would have liked it to be a little more spread out in time.

Psstt before attacking the series, I advise you to get up to speed on the Star Wars films here.
